NEWS FLASH!

News Flash!!!  In the ensuing time since the day of the luncheon, October 11th,  was announced and registration forms were posted, we have found out that the Birmingham Public Library is going to bring Miss Iwate (the Birmingham Japanese Friendship Doll) to our gathering.  Miss Iwate is one of the Friendship Dolls featured in an article by Allen Pate in our Doll News magazine.  Miss Iwate is terribly fragile and will have to remain in her box, but she will be with us.  Accompanying Miss Iwate will be Mary Beth Newbill of the Birmingham Public Library who will bring us up to date on the plans for Miss Iwate's restoration and preservation.  This, in addition to a great program about the magical world of fairies by our guest speaker Sandra Gillis, will make for an interesting luncheon. 
      

                                                                                

Only Three Weeks and Two Days to Go!!!!!

There are only three weeks and two days  to go until the October 11th Magical World of Alabama Doll Luncheon!  We are very excited and have many fun activities and exhibits planned.   We plan to have a raffle for many great helper items, a silent auction,  and a sales table.  A preview of some of the great helper items includes a 1998 U.S.P.C. Classic American Doll-Alabama baby such as the cute boy shown below, a one year subscription to Antique Doll Collector magazine, a 20" Kestner 154 doll, a vinyl 1972 Shirley Temple doll, U.F.D.C. Regional meeting souvenir dolls, and much more!!!  We can't wait to see all of you on October 11th, send in your registration today!

Summer may be a time of leisure

Summer may be a time of leisure, but the members of the Birmingham Doll Club have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming Magical World of Alabama Dolls luncheon to be held on October 11, 2014.  The souvenir doll is Patsyette by Tonner.  Patsyette will be getting a new wardrobe and a new personality with new clothes made by the doll club members.  See pictures below of a recent workshop to make the costumes. 

We have also been busy creating centerpieces for the tables.  In her new persona, Patsyette will feel right at home!

On August 2, 2014 a number of us attended the Twickenham Doll Club doll sale in Huntsville, Alabama.  We had a great time and found beautiful new babies to bring home! Here are some photographs from the sale:

  These photographs were taken at a recent (April, 2014) carving class taught by Janet Cordell at the home of Birmingham Doll Club member, Sharon Kirby.  It is exciting to see a new Hitty being born!

Introducing, a new doll from Tonner, “Patsyette.”  This special doll is a classic originally made by the Effanbee Company as part of the Patsy family of dolls, and Tonner is making her new again.  The Birmingham Doll Club is very excited to be offering you this opportunity to have the new Patsyette made by Tonner and dressed by the club members, and we look forward to her reveal on October 11, 2014 at the Magical World of Alabama Dolls Luncheon!

There will also be helpers and a charity sale table as well as a short presentation by Jill Sturgeon on Miss Iwate, one of the Japanese Friendship dolls, a short presentation by Jill Mann on Bama Babies, and displays of other Alabama-made dolls.

The main program by Sandra Gillis, a well-known area story teller, will be on fairies. There will be a buffet of Southern Food including fried chicken with all the trimmings, ending with Banana pudding for dessert.

It will be a fun day! Don’t miss it.
